Glen Duncan may not know much about writing, but the man knows humor. literary authors are “hard-wired or self-schooled to avoid the clichéd, the formulaic, the rote.” Oh my, what I wouldn’t give to be able to come up with gems like that. I understand that if you get an MFA from Columbia, they implant a chip in your brain that makes you spasm and fall unconscious if you try to write a cliche (that’s why it costs over 40 grand), so there are options even if you aren’t genetically gifted.
